WHY LCDF?
La Conception des Femmes translates to Designing Women... at least that's what Google translator assures us. We chose La Conception des Femmes because we think Designing Women sounds prettier in French. Oooh la la! That's French, right? We're happy to go by LCDF for short, as we know it's a bit of a mouthfull.

This is our little place on the internet to share our ideas, dreams, and visions in the realms of design, fashion, and life. BUT we really hope that LCDF will serve as a swift kick in the pants to help us accomplish all of those projects we've put on the back burner. We're hoping to turn in our "somedays," "maybes," and "what ifs" into realities as we design our lives.

Feel free to stay awhile and get to know us (and come back)!

What would we find on your nightstand?
Well, I'm kind of boring... Just 3 decorative vases (I have a problem with vases.  The problem is I can't stop buying them!), my fab white West Elm square desk clock (thanks, Mom!), a pretty crystally coaster in green from Anthro, my as-old-as-the-hills-but-still-cute-BCBG seeing-eye glasses for when I'm watching Seinfeld re-runs or HGTV, and always a cup with a screw-on lid for my ice-water.  The lid is because I spill.  A lot.  To say I'm clumsy is a "bit of an understatement, Gov'nor."  And I don't want to ruin my little nightstand that used to be HIDEOUS but is now fabulous thanks to many hours of painstakingly silver-leafing it.
What animal would you trade places with for a day?
A peacock.  Kind of good-for-nothing.  But, you know those days when you just feel extra-pretty?  You know, you smile more, walk a little taller, & just feel great?  I think peacocks have got it made in the shade in that category.  Unfortunately, I would have to be a boy peacock, or so I hear.  But, those are totally my colors!  :)

Who would you want to be your celebrity BFF?
Emma Stone.  HILARIOUS, down-to-earth, and  smart.  I would take her to the hairstylist and say "THIS is the exact haircolor I want," and we would stay all day until it happened.  I want that red hair of hers!

Where is your dream vacation location?
The Italian Riviera.  Of the places I've been, I would LOVE to spend more time in Paris, Bruges, and Venice.
Name 3 things that would be must haves if you were on a deserted island...
A huge umbrella, for shade and shelter.  A life-time subscription to "Veranda" mag.  Ryan Gosling
What is your most desired home item?
The Sequoia Console Table from Z Gallerie.  Love bling.  Love wood.  Love it.

What is your most desired fashion item?
Far too many to name!!!  I'm greedy when it comes to clothes, shoes, and accessories.  True story.
What fad would you eliminate?
Oh, also too many to name... But, let me just say: just because "skinny jeans" are in, 95% of people (myself included) have no business in them, unless they are wearing tall boots.  And, men in them?  Please.  Gross me out.
What is your favorite movie?
"When Harry Met Sally" is my standard answer, but there are so many!  "Lost in Translation," "The Brothers Bloom," "Easy A," "The Station Agent," "The Darjeeling Limited," and on and on...
What is your favorite waste of time?
Currently, Pinterest.  I try not to get on too much, though.  I could spend my whole LIFE in there.
What is your favorite waste of money?
My daily Diet Dr. Pepper stop at the McDonalds drive-through on my way to work.  It really does taste more like regular Dr. Pepper!  It's funny, the drive-through people probably make fun of me.  "Can that lady even FUNCTION without Diet Dr. Pepper?!" (The answer, by the way, a resounding NO!)
How would you describe your home and personal styles?
Home: Hollywood Regency.  Mid-century modern.  With a twist of Anthro.  Wardrobe: I'm not sure, I try to be pretty original without being one of those people who Stacy and Clinton would say is dressing crazy to get any attention, and ends up just getting negative attention.  I like to dress with irony.  Like, combining something really classic with something totally funky.  Linen and neon.  Color combos that most people wouldn't come up with.  I kind of like to use irony in decorating, too.  A gun lamp here.  Miniature brass faux taxidermy deer, frenchie, and owl heads there.  What can I say, I've always been an english nerd.  You should try adding onomonopia into your wardrobe, that one's especially tricky. ;)

What would we find on your nightstand?
My nightstand...I had to clean it up for you folks...but typically it has a ginormous stack of my interior magazines: House Beautiful, Elle Decor, and Country Living.  On top of that stack is my gratitude journal that I try to write in every night.  5 gratitude items isn't too difficult, but man have I been lazy.  My nightstand also holds my latest readings, but to be honest I always reach for a magazine first.  I'm also a bit of a germ-a-phobe so I always get into bed clean and smellin good!  Bottles of lotions, hand cream and linen spray help make my bed yummy to get into.  I also LOVE my crazy ruffly lamp even if it might seem childish, but it's crisp white, got texture and goes great against my headboard and mirror.  Speaking of that mirror, it was an $8 find at a thrift store and perfect as is!  I just don't get why mirrors are always so darn expensive.   I'm loving the color combo of navy, gold and white; that little corner makes me smile every time!  My personal item that made it to the nightstand is a card that R made for me while trying to woo me.  He calls me "Bel" so there's a bell on the front and some meaningful lyrics on the back.  I wish he would use his artistic talent and apply it to the house!
What animal would you trade places with for a day?
I think I'd love to be a bird.  I love the wind in my hair and seeing things from different perspectives so being able to fly around would be incredible!  I also think it'd be great because if I were a bird I wouldn't worry about fear of heights or falling but just float and glide gracefully.
Who would you want to be your celebrity BFF?
Cat Deely, maybe?  She is just so freakin genuine up there on t.v. and really cares.  I like people who care.  I need some more time to think on this one!
What is your favorite dessert?
Does chips and queso or guac count?  I'm way more of a salty person than a sweet one.  If I had to pick, I think a brownie with crumbled pieces of Symphony toffee would be the way to go.  Or gelato.
Where is your dream vacation location?
Anywhere scenic.  I'm thinking Colorado mountains, European villages, tropical beaches...I guess that's pretty much the world!  I'm a looker; so if the place has got things to look at, I'm game.  It also has to be pedestrian friendly - we don't get to stroll around here in Texas.
Name 3 things that would be must haves if you were on a deserted island...
Internet, water, and my man.
What is your most desired home item?
I really just want my New York cloth map framed!  Other than that, I have too many to name.
What is your most desired fashion item?
Clothes that fit perfectly.
What fad would you eliminate?
The word "chic"?
What is your favorite book?
I really like fiction or memoir type essays.  I Was Told There'd Be Cake Essays by Sloan Crosley was entertaining and of course the Harry Potter Series are fantastic.  Did I mention that I like juvenile fiction? :)
What is your favorite movie?
Rom Coms, Action, Comedy or movies with a twist.  House Bunny is sooo quotable, The Notebook, Up and Anne of Green Gables are some off the top of my head.
What is your favorite waste of time?
Definitely scouring the internet.  How is it that I go look at one page and then end up with 10 tabs open on one window and another 7 on another?  I think I have a problem.
What is your favorite waste of money?
Home accessories.  Bowls, towels, cake stands, pillows...TJMaxx, HomeGoods, West Elm online, Target, thrift stores - all dangerous.
How would you describe your home and personal styles?
I'm so random and uncommitted that both are a mess!  My home is kind of traditional grandma with pops of color but that is NOT what I want it to be.  Finding out how to not revert to safe mode is still something I'm figuring out, but I think I would describe my ideal current end result to be Graphic Industrial, Softly Eclectic.  See, I have no idea.
My personal style is a more free-spirited Jcrew - classic items paired with girly comfort.

What would we find on your nightstand?
My nightstand houses the following: a photograph from my March 2008 wedding by the talented Mr. Jonathan Canlas, 4 books (Tori Spelling's Mommywood, Diane von Furstenberg's A Signature Life, Bethenney Frankel's Naturally Thin, and Tori Spelling's Storytelling - yep, all the classics) topped with a Baccarat crystal heart (which I was gifted by a former student's family), 3 necklaces (a pink poodle necklace from CrewCuts, a minty pretty, and my beloved horseshoe necklace), a wooden jewelry box gifted from a friend in Mexico, a lamp (which I'm looking to replace quickly), and my iPhone charger.
What animal would you trade places with for a day?
My puppy daughter Monster Jane Doodlie Doo. She gets to cuddle and sleep all day long, she's adored by all, and she's the cutest little lady ever. I honestly never thought I could love a little animal as much as I love her. She'll always be our first baby. Doesn't she just make you want to squeal with delight? Look at that little pink belly. I could just eat her up. She's delicious!
Who would you want to be your celebrity BFF?
DVF. Hands down. I love her vision and her passion for life. She's an icon.
What is your favorite dessert?
Oh, give me a root beer float and I'm the happiest little thing you ever did see. But to really get my heart to go pitter-patter, a trip to The Melting Pot or creme brûlée via Ritz Carlton room service will do.
Where is your dream vacation location?
Any beach with that hot husband of mine sounds dreamy, but if you're going to make me choose I vote for Tahiti.
Name 3 things that would be must haves if you were on a deserted island.
My husband, an iPad, and sunscreen - the essentials.
What is your most desired home item?
See that table above? I covet it. Swooooooooon.
What is your most desired fashion item?
I think this changes constantly, but I'm always in search of classic, timeless silhouettes.
What is your favorite book?
I am obsessed with hardcover children's books. The Dot, Ish, The Giving Tree, Fletcher and the Falling Leaves, Old Turtle, Martin's Big Words, and I Like You are all classics in my eyes.
What is your favorite movie?
I will always love The Sound of Music. Christopher Plummer melts my heart with those piercing blue eyes and that gorgeous bone structure. He is so dreamy.
What is your favorite waste of time?
Online shopping/browsing. I spend a way-too-embarrassing-to-admit amount of time looking at clothes.
How would you describe your home and personal styles?
My home is probably summed up in the term Modern Country. My personal style is preppy bohemian. I definitely think I'm still coming into my own in both categories.
